Fifty maybe sixty years ago someone took the decision to plant cherries all over the communal green space in this neighbourhood. Their stunning blossom canopies are one of the first joyful heralds of spring. When they fall they form the most beautiful pink carpet - always a 'sigh' moment for me.
I've tried to find out who it was and no luck but what a heartfelt legacy.
I love cherry blossoms. Our neighbors had one which had branches hanging over the fence on our side. iT was a very old and beautiful tree. BUt they cut it down because it blocked out the Sun. That day I cried..

DeleteYour cherry grove observation reminded me of one our past president's wife, Lady Bird Johnson who opened a wildflower preserve and also advocated planting native wildflowers along some the US Highways. There is a place just west of where I live that the local town sowed lots of wildflower seeds in the areas around the highway exchange. What a sight to behold when they bloom in the summer. Like your cherry grove it is awe inspiring. There is peace to be found in such places.

DeleteI am currently reading "The Hidden Life of Trees," and what I've learned has made me see them as beings rather than things. Cherry blossoms are so beautiful, it is no wonder so much poetry has been written about them.
