Just be

Daily Draw: Spiritual Buddhist Cards, Just Be

With right hand raised to shoulder height, arm bent, palm of right hand facing outwards with fingers upright and closed this is figure adopts the Abhaya Mudra hand posture. The pose symbolises protection, peace and the dispelling of fear. A couple of weeks ago  I may have overlooked this as 'just nice words'...

The verse on the back reads:

Do not dwell in the past,
do not dream
of the future,
concentrate the mind
on the present moment.
- Gautama Buddha

A good philosophy for the weekend. The orange robes, green splashes and twinkling white lights suggest joy, hope and simplicity may be found by just being in the moment.

  1. I love these beautiful cards. :) Having lived with an undercurrent of anxiety most of my life, I've found directing my senses to what is happening in and around me at any given moment can ground me. I taught my daughter (who has anxiety issues as well) to play the 'rainbow game' when she feels a panic attack coming on. Look around wherever you are and find something the color red, then orange, then yellow and so on. If a color can't be found, skip to the next one. Continue to play the game until the anxiety dissipates.

  2. I am so glad you first shared these cards on your blog. I'd never have found them otherwise. I really love them, there is so much depth and wisdom within. Im thinking of investing in a print for my home. But which one to choose?!?

I get anxiety too and a classic symptom is not noticing what is going on around me. I haven't heard of the rainbow game before but I will try it.

    1. The game is something I made up to help her calm down; 'game' sounds a lot more fun than deep breathing. :) Gosh, I don't know which print I would choose from these either!

  3. Just Be - can come off as some 'just nice words' if we are in a shadowed place or thought and cannot fathom the wisdom of simplicity.

  4. So simple and yet so profoundly wise
