No performance without effort

Daily Draw, Golden Tarot, The Chariot

These swans gliding along while
paddling furiously below the water remind me that an 'effortless performance' is usually anything but. Years ago I worked in one of the national galleries. Very glamorous front of house. But backstage? Oh man was that hard work!

Those that are most slow in making a promise are the most faithful in the performance of it.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau, 1712-1778

  1. Don't know why I traded this deck away years ago, it is beautifully done.

    1. I love it. Especially the end of book references to the fine art she used. Loads to keep me going there.

  2. I've experienced the same thing working as a teacher. It all looks so peaceful in the classroom, but not so much behind closed doors in the teachers room!

    1. I'm a teacher too. Paddling like mad par for the course 🙂

  3. I think we compare our insides to other people's outsides. We feel like we're paddling like hell to stay afloat, but everyone else seems to just glide right along. Just an illusion I'm sure! :)

    1. Comparing insides to outsides - great insight I hadn't thought of it that way. That's a keeper. Thanks :)
