Scrambling

Daily Draw: The Shaman's Oracle, Hunter of Abundance

I think many of the distasteful political behaviours in the workplace stem from an urge to over-consume which this card warns against.

That may be scrambling over everyone else to get the rise that pays for status symbols like a large house or car. Or everyday over-consumption of praise or honours. A mean spiritedness that can't bear to see others recognised for their good work. I've never understood that mentality.

I'm quite content to get really good at this role before going for the next promotion. Happy with a modest but comfortable home. I don't crave praise taking satisfaction from a job well done.

There is a warning in this card and it chimes with one I received from a good colleague last week. There are one or two individuals who still want to take away what I have. It would be wise to take a little more for myself before the onslaught begins again...

I would rather be a little nobody, then to be a evil somebody

  1. "over-consumption of praise or honours."
I've had a couple jobs like this. Then you come home and wonder why you are so cranky. Because we aren't getting that pat ever 30 minutes or so

    1. If people need a pat every 30 minutes fine each to their own. Just not at the cost of undermining the efforts of others...

  2. Those that have an empty hole in their souls will likely never find enough praise, promotions or material things to fill it. Being able to be content is a gift of maturity (not that I think there's anything wrong with being motivated, but the underlying intentions are different).

  3. I used to think that 'do anything to get ahead' mentality was limited to sales. I see more and more it is prevalent through all fields. I started first grade at age six and only had a four week preschool summer program just before first grade and it was only for about three or four hours. Now children are started out in programs when they are two or three years old. Anything to get ahead of others.
