Entanglement

Daily Draw: The Wild Unknown Tarot, Wheel of Fortune

This card reminds me of haecceity - an assemblage of humans, animals, time, space, physical objects and everything else in the world. An example could be an hour of the day.

Alternatively if the tangled cords map on to the different spokes of the wheel of an individual life - health, wealth, work, family, friends, leisure, love, spirituality - (I'm thinking of those seductively simple management development tools) are we ever truly up or down fortune wise? Can we even disentangle these aspects of our experience? I would expect that most times we are doing well in some areas, feeling less fulfilled in others and elsewhere nothing much to report.

This wheel is less knotty at the top indicating greater freedom or less constraint. However the lower half is more stable. Moving into the 'up' position will mean giving up some of that security.

I know the many disguises of that monster, Fortune, and the extent to which she seduces with friendship the very people she is striving to cheat.

Boethius, 480-524

  1. One of my favorite Wheel of Fortune renditions! I love the addition of the Owl who perceives what is, from all sides. Like you said life isn't always good or bad. Mostly we make do with our circumstances and hoot when the day is done. :)

    1. 'Hoot when the day is done' wonderful wordsmithing :)

  2. Haecceity - a unique word to describe uniqueness (and a new word for me!). Reminds me of birds creating a nest; it looks like a mess as they assemble bits of moss, straw and twigs at first. But before long they've got a secure place to raise the next generation. :)

    1. At an urban lake I remember seeing some water fowl collecting crisp packets and chocolate wrappers as well as twigs to furnish their nests. I felt sad for them at first but the more I watched the more I realised they were happy creating their own work of art...

  3. All those brambles wrapped around the Wheel and the cords that bind them together. Even with all that, one cannot bind the Wheel and stop its turning.
